And it Begins...

It was so nice this weekend I never found the time to blog, but I have managed to create a bit of downtime this evening to update you all on the happenings around here.
I am over halfway done clearing up the raised bed area of the garden. I am getting dangerously close to being able to plant something. I actually pulled some radish seed out yesterday, and I was tempted to go plant them in the ground. Radishes do very well in cold weather, so I am confident they would survive and thrive in one of my raised beds, but that is the problem. A radish only takes twenty-three days to mature; therefore, I would have a hundred radishes ready to eat, and nothing to eat them with. It would be better for me to hold off another few weeks and plant them with my salad greens.
I got the raspberry thicket cleaned out yesterday as well. I love raspberry jam; it is my favorite. I am also looking forward to making a batch of raspberry wine as soon as they are in season. I should have taken a before and after picture of that job because of the drastic improvement. It took a few hours, but the reward of feeling accomplished at the end was very much so worth it.
Oh, I almost forgot! My garlic chives have already started to pop up through the ground. I saw them on Saturday when I was cleaning out the herb bed. I love chives, and the garlic chives are just that much better. They will be ready to start harvesting and using in about two to three weeks, and then I will be able to continue harvesting and using them all summer long. I am really starting to feel the exhaustion and excitement that comes with this season!
