I couldn’t wait any longer. After spending all day working around the farm getting things cleaned and prepped I just had to plant something… anything! I had finished getting one of the raised beds prepped and ready to go earlier in the day, and I had a few packets of seeds that we found in the office that were left over from 2009, so I planted quite a few rows of radishes, a few rows of spinach, and a few rows of a type of lettuce called Black-Seeded Simpson. I have never tried that last lettuce before, and I am a very curious person when it comes to food, so I am looking forward to harvesting the first leaves in about forty-five days and giving it a try.
Oh! I almost forgot. My garlic has popped through the ground! I was worried that they might not make it with how late I planted them this year (or maybe you could call it early… either way, February is not a normal time to plant garlic). But, they are through the ground; drinking up the sun. I absolutely love garlic. I know I have already talked about that in an earlier post, but it truly is just wonderful.
All in all, today was another very busy day on the farm. We spent most the morning cleaning up the wreckage of an old silo that we tore down last fall, I got a bit more prep work done in the gardens, and a have officially planted the first salad bed of the season. It has been a good day!
