The rain we
were supposed to get last night never came, but it is starting to look like we
have some sort of weather moving in right now. It is supposed to be
thunderstorms all day tomorrow, and the rain is supposed to continue into the
Monday. I got about a hundred and fifty square feet of the east lawn seeded to
grass, so only about five thousand more feet to go. (I ran out of seed, and
then got side tracked doing other things instead of going to the store to get
more.)
Things like
making a batch of Dandelion wine. I have never made this before, but my dad
knows a guy who does/did, and he thinks it tastes like gasoline… I got a
different recipe, so hopefully mine doesn’t turn out that way. It is supposed
to taste sweet, and slightly of honey… fingers crossed.
It took me about an hour to pick a
half gallon worth of dandelion heads, which is enough to make one gallon of
wine.
I was walking
around the yard yesterday and I noticed that the crab-apple tree was just
starting to blossom, so maybe this freak thaw/freeze crap that destroyed the
entire year’s crop of the rest of our fruit trees didn’t harm the crab-apple.
I checked in
on my garlic, and it’s healthy and robust and strong as ever, so that makes me
smile just a little bit. I am so looking forward to garlic this fall… even
though I know I didn’t plant near enough to get us through until next year…
sad, but I’m sure after the tears dry I’ll find some way to pick myself up and
move on.
