Wood, Goats, Turkeys, and Grass...

I got a good start to the day today (after sipping my morning coffee and devouring the entire Wall Street Journal); I split about a week’s worth of wood. It’s never too early to start prepping for next winter… Actually, I’m still just behind on the wood pile we cut for this winter with quite a few more full days of splitting to look forward to.
After a few hours of splitting logs my grandpa came down and asked for my help putting the lawn mower/tractor back together. (My brother took it apart last weekend when he came home from college, and then was courteous enough to leave it in pieces when he left.) That took a few hours. Once it was finished I took it for a test mow, and got most of the south lawn tidied up before calling it quits for the day. Quits isn’t actually the right word… I came inside for the evening to do house and paper work. Which I’m doing right now… kind of.
Tomorrow we will have our work cut out for us. I know for a fact that first thing in the morning we have to get the east lawn seeded to grass because there is high probability of rain in the afternoon. Later, we will get the new goat pens built in the barn because we need to separate the baby billy from his mom and get him weaning, and we will probably move Feta in the same pen as him and get her out of the house. (Update: she is fine and in good health… and always hungry.) Then, if we have time, (which we won’t), we will start to clean out the back section of the back barn so we can start to build the turkey coop. We will need to move the eight surviving Bourbons outside within a few days because we have thirty-seven chicks arriving sometime early next week. (These ones better be in good health!)
I’m still going strong without smoking, but I must admit I am rather tempted to get some of my tobacco seed planted… just in case. Oh, and I forgot to give the photo update last Sunday, but I promise I will make up for it and do and extra good job this week.
